Statement

What is most
gratifying to me, is the continual sense of discovery in the painting
process. It is the same with daily living... change and
adaptation.
My work is rarely preconceived, and the shapes and colors evolve naturally. Sometimes, many of
the passages in my paintings are purposefully indecipherable. I
find such ambiguity in life, as well.
I love rich texture development and the
sensuousness of the paint. It seems the more mature I become, the more
I gravitate to bold
colors. I let my painting speak to me and tell me what it needs.
Sometimes, I'll add collage, Japanese paper, crayon, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, until I am satisfied that it “works”.
Rhythm and movement are important in my work
because I like to be in tune with the flow of life. Lately, I have begun to
work loose and juicy and keep the colors spontaneous. Figures are finding
their way onto the canvas, which is an exciting new direction. Where I am
in my life, and what I am shows up in my work.
How could it be otherwise?
